FAQ

Please browse our FAQ’s below for quick and easy answers to your questions. If you have further questions or would simply like more information please feel free to contact us here.

What happens at the initial Visit?

On your initial visit a history will be taken into your current complaint, along with an examination of the area or areas involved and clinical tests if needed. This enables us to form a diagnosis and allows us to cater the appropriate course of treatment.

Please bring any previous or relevant results of test or scans which may further help in your diagnosis. If further tests are required we can send you to the appropriate sources to get these done. As Osteopaths examine and treat the muscular skeletal system of your body, we require our patient to undress to their underwear or wear loose assessable clothing, (shorts, tee-shirts). Towels are also available in clinic rooms to cover the patient. If we feel Osteopathy is not for you, then we will tell you at your initial consultation.

How long are the appointments?

Initial appointments run approximately 30-45 minutes, with a standard follow up appointment running for 30 minutes.

What is the treatment method?

The treatment is tailored to your individual needs and your comfort ability and comprises of gentle hands on techniques, which may include, massage, stretching, joint articulation and manipulation. We also advise on exercises/stretches and aid in your awareness of certain postures or life activities which may be contributing to your condition. This will enable us to advise you further the best action to be taken to benefit your condition and help prevent re-occurrence.

How many appointments are required?

Our goal is ‘getting you back to a normal functioning life as quickly as possible’. A general guide is 1-3 treatments for acute injuries caught early. Chronic conditions will take generally more visits, but these vary depending on the condition, and some may need to be managed over time which we will be happy to discuss during your first or second visit when we have a better understanding of these conditions.

How much does it cost?

As private practitioners we operate on a fee for service basis. Please ring us to discuss our current fee schedule. We are registered with all major private health funds so check with your own health fund regarding Osteopathy extras cover. We offer HICAPS to our clients so we can bill most private health funds directly and you need only pay the gap. We accept cash, cheque, and EFTPOS payments on day of service.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No referral is needed from your GP if seeking a private appointment. Your doctor can refer you under the Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan if they feel your condition is chronic. This enables you up to five visits a year under medicare, see FAQ government funding.

Is there Government funding?

Medicare rebates via the EPC program
Under the Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) program. Patients with chronic conditions (registered under the EPC) are able to claim up to 5 services per year from an Allied Health Practitioner (including Osteopaths). Eligible patients are able to receive a rebate from Medicare covering part of the consultation cost. A referral from your GP is required in order to access this program.

Can I receive treatment under the TAC, Workcover and Department of Veterans affairs (DVA)?
